Can Your Thoughts Be Idle?
What does that really mean? Thoughts that are not going anywhere? Like a car that is idling, running but not moving? Or maybe it means random thoughts? Or empty thoughts? Or thoughts with no meaning, purpose or value?
Is it possible that our thoughts are ever idle? Some might say that when we’re sleeping, or maybe meditating that our thoughts rest, but I’d argue that too. Aren’t dreams or nightmares our unconscious thoughts? And meditation, well if you’ve ever meditated you know what a challenge it can be to “let your thoughts go.”
Did you know that on average we have 10-50,000 thoughts per day? That’s a lot of thoughts and a lot of noise inside our heads!
The really interesting thing is –research shows that we've thought 98% of these thoughts already. Yes, already! That means we're spending a lot of time thinking the same things over and over... and have created a lot of "thought habits". These thoughts habits are unique to each person.
What kind of recurring thought patterns do you have? Are they about how smart or attractive you are? How you can handle anything because you’re just that good? That you are the best thing since sliced bread or maybe just the opposite?
What kinds of thoughts are running through your head? I’m guessing that like a lot of people your thoughts are more along the lines of what you are not … (fill in the blank).
But, if that’s the case, you’re not alone!
What are your recurring thought patterns, the running scripts you tell yourself, your “programming” or predominant thoughts in those idle moments?
You CAN change your thinking, are you ready?
